Youth Arts organization prepares to welcome new leadership
After a seven-year tenure with ElevArte Community Studio, Giselle Mercier steps down from her role as Executive Director. She plans to move back to Panama, her birthplace and where she will continue her work in youth development and supporting opportunities for artistic and educational exchanges.
During her time at ElevArte, Mercier led the staff and a talented group of teaching artists. The organization advanced its creative youth development mission, implemented standards of excellence, and grew the organization’s visibility in the field of arts education.
Regarding her move and the new leadership, Mercier says, “It is a positive and necessary change. The organization is at a pinnacle of growth and in order to maintain its course, a fresh perspective and out-of-the box thinker is needed.” The search for a new executive director is in place and the leadership transition is expected to occur by Spring.
Mercier adds, “I will miss my colleagues the most, the youth we serve and the community. Pilsen gave me my first career opportunity 28 years ago and welcomed me again with open arms seven years ago to lead ElevArte. I am infinitely grateful to all my colleagues in the field of arts education, its been a great and joyful experience.”
Friends and community members will have the chance to bid Mercier farewell; ElevArte will hold a sendoff party and fundraiser to sustain the transition on Monday, February 22nd at Lagunitas Brewing Company, where 100% of ticket and beer sales will support the organization. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite. Ticket includes food, entertainment and access to cash bar.
