"Blue Eyes" project and the ASM Crew!

So last Spring we embarked on a small project that the majority of my students looked at me with dazed expressions and the over sung... "why" question. I asked students to cut-out a printed paper mask with no eye portals to see out of and make a picture, a self-portrait. "Just do it - Maybe they'll put us in the online gallery....". I handed them two sheets of paper, yarn and a hole puncher and asked them to get to work.

The "Blue Eyes" project is a website and online collaborative project gallery of artist Miguel Ruibal. A painter with an interest in the "real" and mediated self. What a fitting project I thought for my Digital Photography students and their own Facebook lives. I was surprised to receive a text from one of my students (thanks Lily) last night after class. Our guest speaker, Emmanuel Garcia (thanks Thelma! for the invite), who suggested they Google their name to see what comes up.... (Lily is such a model learner!). Senor Garcia shared with us his use and interest in Social Media with a great presentation on Facebook, Twitter and how to engage and benefit from these social tools.

So enjoy our blue-eyed brown children.... In the projet site  you can find the work of:

  • Alejandro Carmona (#3)
  • Berenice Alcantar (#4)
  • Celeste Flores (#6)
  • Devante Morgan (#7)
  • Heustolia Ordaz (#13)
  • Laura Najera (#23)
  • Matthew Aparicio (#28)
